NIC Driver upgraded but old driver loads on reboot

Asked by Matt Schorr

I have installed a new NIC Driver but old driver loads on reboot. the command lshw -class network reveals the old driver. I can run rmmod e1000e; insmod /lib/modules/2.6.35-22-server/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko and then lshw shows the proper driver running. Where do I load the new driver on boot?

Thanks,

Matt "Newbie" Schorr

i suggest you blacklist the e1000e module, then add the command to install the driver in /etc/rc.local avove the exit0 line

are you booting to the 2.6.35.22 kernel?

Thanks. Yes booting that kernel which begs the question to I need to change the command after upgrades? These are remote HP desktops using the built in Intel 82566DM card. The reason to change the driver was the card will not autoneg nor take the ethtool command setting it to 100 Full and connect to 100 meg switch.

i'm suprised it's not flying on it's own, i'd have guessed the compiled driver would overwrite the stock file.

Can you help with this problem?
