Network manager do not recognize dialup connection

Asked by pepperblue

I dont know whether it is a bug of NM, but it happens to me since i use ubuntu. The computer is connected via a dialup connection using gnomeppp(wvdial frontend). And it works well.. But the problem is that, the Network Manager in ubuntu (Mine is now maveric) says that i am still offline even though it is connected. Because of this reason evolution is not online, i have to disable NM to the empathy to work. Do anybody know how to rectify the problem? Or is it a noticed bug by the developers yet not patched? Please, somebody reply...

Not sure if that helps, but maybe it's about who recognizes what.
So try to make NetworkManager to recognize interfaces.
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf
managed=true

Described there.

But Mr. Sam, I haven't configured "/etc/network/interfaces" in order to make "managed=true" in nm-system-settings.conf. Even so, I tried your suggestion, but NM stood same as before.

What should I enter into "interfaces" file, so that NM works with your suggestion?

Network-Manager conflicts with gnome-ppp, so maybe consider to report a bug since you have to disable NM to get standard apps connected.

So it shows, at present, there is no fix for this problem. Ok then. Thank you for you reply.
