Wireless Drivers Problem On Desktop

Asked by GeminiMoon

Have switched all my laptops and desktops to Ubuntu 10.04 with little problems. I have one desktop that I did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 and everything seems to work except for the wireless card.

Typing lspci -v into the terminal window it shows that the Network Controller is a Texas Inst. ACX111 54mbps Wireless Interface. Under that it says Zyxel Comm. Corp. Device 340B 802.11. (It is a Mini PCI card with antenna if that makes any difference)

By typing another command into Terminal, sudo lshw -C network, it says it is unclaimed. Even though I have read that I can install and run NDISWrapper to make my wireless card work, I am at a total loss as how to do this. I do not know where to find the Windows driver nor do I understand how to use the NDISWrapper or ndisgtk to install the correct driver.

Hopefully someone can explain to me, in layman's terms, what I need to do to get this wireless card up and running properly.

I have searched all over for how to do this but am just not quite understanding how to sort it all out.

Thanks for any help!

When I enter the command you listed above i get this. I am also having a new problem when booting. I get a black screen which reads:

error: unknown mode found
error: unknown command "terminal"

And when finaly booted i have no panel bars on my desktop. As i am not familiar with Ubuntu. There is not much i am able to do without them on. However, i have access to terminal. But that is all.
If you could help with both problems i would be much obliged.

You need the sources and firmware, alternatively you can use the Windows driver with ndisgtk.

plug your computer via the ethernet adapter and go into terminal and download/install the ndisgtk wrapper. then follow the instructions in the link that actionparsnip gave you.

Can you help with this problem?
