My pc is connected to the router (Billion 400G) by ethernet cable and is always connect this way.
Let me explain, I have 2 HDD one with OS Windows the other with OS Ubuntu and I disconnect one and connect other according to which OS I want to work before I boot. The Windows Os is working properly with the router, Ubuntu OS was working properly, if I am not in error before going away for a week I download Ubuntu updates and when I comeback Firefox wasn’t working, don’t know if something in download was the cause.

Thank you for another try but sorry it dint work.
After I follow your instructions, Firefox screen come up I click on a web site a warning come:
Firefox is currently in offline mode and can’t browse the web.
Uncheck “work Offline” in the file menu then try again.
I uncheck offline but dint work.
The idea of start the router before boot Ubuntu is the way I always boot, unlike
Windows the opposite way Ubuntu doesn’t see the router.
Booting in Ubuntu there isn’t the some activity, as with Windows between the router leds and HDD meaning to me Ubuntu doesn’t connect to router.

Your PC has no Network connection. Either of the following components are broken:
- Network Plug of Your PC
- Ethernet cable that connects your pc with your router
- Router
Have you another pc / laptop to check if it can connect to the router?
Do you have another ethernet cable you could try in exchange?

When I want to work in Ubuntu I disconnect the Windows hard disk and connect the hard disk with Ubuntu OS, Ubuntu works properly the problem starts when I click Firefox it comes to the screen but going to any website the connection doesn’t work because of some software trouble there is no connection between Firefox and rooter.

My Fault, sorry. But You are having definetly network problems in Ubuntu. The command "ifconfig" doesn't list any network device on Your PC, "ping" does not reach any Internet-Servers. So You need to find out why.
Could You please state the output of this command:
lspci | grep Ethernet
Have You tried booting an older kernel-version (if there is any on Your pc) in Grub? To do so, just use the arrow-keys to select another version at bootup. If this succeeds, run update again, maybe the error gets resolved by that.

The grep result:
Bash: ispci/grep: No such file of directory
About Grup I don’t know where to go to find this, I click on “Synaptic Package Manager” and found in green grub- pc 1.98-lubuntu-7, the other references of grub are all in white no color.

The command to enter is not lspci/grep -- the separator is a vertical bar, not a forwards slash. For ease, just use:
lspci

And its
LSPCI
(in lowercases), the first letter is an "l", not an "i"

I have to explain this; if the reason of Firefox to don’t connect is the name Gigabit then this is entirely my fault.
On 01 November I change the computer mother board and processor to match modern one and around the 10 November after I set up all my Windows programs I connect my other hardisk with Ubuntu seen there was no errors during boot up I was sure everything was all right, not accounting the reason was the new motherboard which is a Gigabyte.
If this is the reason I still don’t know how to fixit.
Now I deeply apologize to you and the people that try to help with this, I waist they time and knowledge unnecessary, and thank you to find the mistake.
Thank you.

Ok, try this command:
sudo modprobe atl1e
and see, if you are connected to the internet, e.g. with the command:
ping google.de
if you are connected, run an update. But be aware that this is only temporary, you need to do this everytime you reboot. Making this permanent will be not that a big job, but let's just see, if this works for the time beeing.
If it does not work, You'll need to download the newest driver and install it manually.
Note: This is a "Gigabit" Ethernet device, the resemblence to Your motherboard's vendor name "Gigabyte" is just a coincidence, don't bother ;)

There is something wrong with your network card.. you can reinstall, but it is no guarantee of fixing the problem. The main problem is that there is no communication between your laptop and your router.
If you wish to continue debugging the problem, please provide the output from (note, you can cut and paste these -- no more errors :) )
sudo modprobe atl1e
sudo ifconfig -a
If you do wish to reinstall, simply take all the files of interest, and then copy them onto a USB or CD.
It is an advanced method, but you can keep your package selection, if you know how
http://
The first command makes a text file in your home folder. You can copy this onto the aforementioned USB/CD, then use the second and third commands to restore it after copying the text file into your newly installed home directory from the USB/CD drive

Or You could try installing the latest driver by hand:
1) Download http://
2) In Ubuntu, create a new folder, As an Example, let's suppose You create a folder named "driver" on Your Desktop. Put the downloaded file in there.
3) Open a Terminal and change into the just created directory, in this example, that would be:
cd /home/luis/
4) Install the driver using these commands, ignore the errors that come up on the first one:
tar -xzf AR81Family-
sudo bash
make install
modprobe atl1e
exit
5) That's it, I'm not sure if You need to restart after that.

I hope everything is correct.
When I got the Stop above I disconnect Terminal and restart Ubuntu then enter everything again in Terminal and start Firefox but still dint connect, restart Ubuntu start Firebox it was the same, I notice when start Firefox it is wall ways on Work Offline and I switch it off.

I apologize again for the error.
Result follows:
luis@luis-
bash: cd/homelluis/
tar: AR81Family-
tar: Child renuned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
luis@luis-
[sudo] password for luis:
root@luis-
make: *** No rule to make target 'install'. Stop.
root@luis-
root@luis-
exit
luis@luis-
At cd/home/luis etc, above there is a “l” instead of forward slash but actually is the later.
I don’t understand a error why on the call of the file after all it is on Desktop/driver and the name is correct too, and Firefox still doesn’t connect to the web. This comes about after I had a huge update for Ubuntu in which there was included Firefox updates.

You did not change into the directory that contains the file.
Try these commands:
cd Desktop
cd driver
tar -xzf *.gz
sudo make install
The output of the tar -xzf *.gz should be as follows:
"gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now"
If it's not, You're doing something wrong and the following step will fail ;)

I tried and change spaces and no spaces with the command “tar” it dint work I got the feeling what upset Firebox did damage in Ubuntu too, if this was in Windows I would recognize as such. Before, I mention about clean the hard disk and reinstall Ubuntu because I feel I am wasting your time (errors and others) I have to emphasize that I respect all the help that you been giving and I learned quiet a bit with this exercise, I need Ubuntu before the end of the month in working conditions, my problem is how to save the applications that I download before.
Please advise.
Thank you.

You did change into the directory correctly, yet the tar command is wrong. It's
tar[SPACE]
substitute [SPACE] by the space character ;)
It's up to you to choose the re-installation option, of course. But I'm not sure if that fixes Your problem. You could give it a try by booting from the installation cd a so called "live system" - no changes are made to your system, You can even do this on Your Windows PC. Then you could check if network works there. If it does, a reinstallation will fix the error.
BTW, why do you need to clean the disk? You could just re-install Ubuntu, I'm not sure but that should not delete your downloaded programs or things in Your home folder (nevertheless You should backup things first, just to make sure);

The command eventually did work; Firebox is working. After your last note I tried again in different places to insert a SPACE on “tar” commando, I wrote each time and everything and tried it on my scrapbook, then restart Ubuntu and tried with different Space position it gave the same errors that had before, on one of the times after entering all the “tar” commad the cursor just keep flashing, I wait for awhile and then click to close Terminal, it dint close and note come up that terminal was still busy eventually close it and restart Ubuntu, on the first try “tar” worked the results follows:
luis@luis-
gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
