Wireless unable to auto connect on startup

Asked by Ian Ace

I've been using 10.04 for the past months and had just installed 10.10 today.

I had observed that I had to manually right-click and check "Enable Wireless" on gnome-network manager in order to connect my wireless connection. This had not happened before on 10.04 as a matter of fact, it connected directly to my ESSID on startup.

Is there a known solution for this?

Right click network manager -> edit connections
Wireless tab, select the connection and click edit.
Make sure the "Connect automatically" is selected at the top of the new window. If it is then unselect it and apply/ok back to the desktop, then repeat but re-enable the tickbox then apply/ok back to desktop

Reboot to test.

Nope. I already tried that one and still it does not auto connect on start-up. You have to manually right-click on the gnome-network-manager icon from the taskbar to "enable wireless" so you can see the ESSID's. When you have it connected, it tends to disconnect and "Enable Wireless" is unchecked again from the gnome-network-manager.
It's very annoying so I reverted back to 10.04, now it's working fine.
