wlan0: direct probe to AP timed out error due to using channel 6 on wireless router - probably due to too much wireless interference from other wireless routers

Wireless won't connect - authentication loop

Hi,

I've just moved house. My wireless was working great at my old house, I've just set it up here and I'm having problems. Initially it connected to the wireless network but I could not access the internet. Now it won't access the wireless network and is continuously asking for authentication - it is definately the right password. It's working well with other linux computers in the house. Thanks!

Is there any more data I can supply that may help?

It is possible that the wireless connection is not working, because the SSID of the wireless router is hidden. Try enabling SSID broadcasting on the wireless router so that it is not hidden anymore. Then temporarily disable encryption on the router to see if you can get the wireless connection going. If it works, re-enable encryption on the router....

Can you connect if you move the problem machine to a location from which another machine has connected? If so, you might have some local interference, try repositioning the access point to avoid metal objects, etc.
Run iwlist scan to check what you see around you in your new location. If you have a lot of neighbors on the same channel you are using (or nearby, since the only non-overlapping channels are 1, 6, and 11), try switching the channel your access point is using.

Thanks for your response guys.

It was indeed a channel issue. It was automatically set to 6 so instead I checked the 'Enable Auto Channel Selection' - works perfectly. - So simple!

Thanks again.
