how to get wireless network connection working

Asked by Rob Cady

Had no problems with my son's netbook on accessing the wifi. However on my wife's netbook I cannot see it at all and when I click on the network connection nothing is showing up and so I go to wireless connections which has nothing yet, and it is asking for SSID: MODE, BSSID: Mac address, and mtu. Do I need to fill these in to access the wifi function on the netbook, and if so what information do I put in for each of the above items? And do I need to do anything else to access the wifii?

Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scan | head -n 25

Use a wired connection to make adding the text as an update easier.

Can you help with this problem?
