Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C network

Thanks

You may want to connect to a wired link and get fully updated.

Is the wifi device enabled via killswitch? It's not showing in the output.

Its a little switch on the device to turn the device off and on.

I suggest you run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source

Reboot then use the hardware driver app at System>Administration>Additional Drivers

And enable the driver, looks like it uses one of those cheapo broadcom chips

It's not a broadcom it's a intel replacing a broadcom.

Is the kill switch physically on the wifi card ?

Looks like I had fake / faulty 5100 card, have replaced Broadcom and wifi working again :)

I have another Intel 5100 card on the way, will see how this one goes.

Thanks
