Wireless not working in Ubuntu 10.10
Okay, here's my problem. Hope someone can come up with a solution coz this one has me stumped.
I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed after doing a Alt +F2 update-manager -d.
While using 10.04 and 10.10 I had wireless, but about 2 days ago it just disappeared. The driver is installed (the one in Additional Drivers called Broadcom B43 wireless driver).
The thing with this is I don't personally have wireless in my house, I used ethernet or usb cable. But 2 of my friends who I regularly help out to solve some computer (actually human) errors have wireless & I just login to their wireless.
Also every week or so I login to a wireless that's not to far from me - the company actually knows that I do this as I buy the monetary voucher from them .
The light on my laptop (Acer Aspire 3680) was lighting up but doesn't at all now.
Any advice for me?

I do have the same problem on HP mini 210 with Broadcom 4312 chipset. After upgrading to 10.10 my wifi does not work anymore.
The wifi indicator turn on when in boot process, but when login session, it goes off.
From terminal, I type :
cat /var/lib/
and the result:
[main]
NetworkingEnabl
WirelessEnabled
WWANEnabled=false
edit it and make it true, but after reboot, it becomes false again.
If I type rfkill unblock wifi, it brings both bluetooth and wifi up. but when I press the wifi button, all gone and can not up anymore.

Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark
Just before I was going to follow the instructions you gave I rebooted my laptop. For some or other unexplained, odd and/or weird reason the wireless is now fully functional.
I am totally stumped as to what could've caused this to happen.
So this question has a solution and an answer, but I don't know what it is LOL.
Thanks anyway
Regards
Tanya
