Network seems strangled after updating to 10.10

I just updated from 10.04 to 10.10. Everything seems to be in order, but my network seems to "strangle" my down and uploadspeed to internet?

When comparing http://www.speedtest.net from my machine and a vista machine, the vista machine reports correct values, but ubuntu not. and it cuts my internet in more than half. I have not done anything new to the router or modem. the only diffrence is ubuntu. and it is also the same at a friends house...

Right now I am the only one on the network, and I have a download speed of 550 kb/s and it should have been 1500 kb/s.

Anything one can fix?

it would help to use proper english as not everyone's native language is english.
