network and OS switching issues

Asked by Mark A. CRaft

So I recently installed Ubuntu 10.4 onto my computer. I installed it side-by-side with windows, so I could test and compare it long term.
However, now it seems that instead of installing the new OS together it simple erased windows.
Regardless I was intending to switch completely, so no harm I suppose.
Although there was some documentation that i would greatly appreciate retrieving and would like to know what way could I change my default OS?
Also I'm having problems logging onto wireless Internet; it would appear that "Wired Network" is working but wireless simple says, "disconnected." I assume that I need to activate it or download the proper drivers, but I have no [wired] Internet access currently.
So is this a common problem?
and how do I fix it?

The broadcom 43xx chip is very common as it is cheap, broadcmo have made a nice thing to make the driver :)
