Wireless network card AR2413 802.11bg NIC can see wireless router using ath5k driver, but cannot connect wirelessly - wired connection is ok - using Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pa 1510 laptop
I have installed Ubuntu as a dual load running on a laptop with Vista. I can see my wireless router in Ubuntu but cannot connect having typed in the network key. In Vista, the laptop connects to the router just fine. I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop and I am trying to connect to a Sky broadband Netgear router. I am a relative beginner to networking issues and have tried everything I know!
I have updated drivers etc. I think!

Can you give the output of:
sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scan | head -n 25
What is output?
Thanks.
What windows does or doesn't do is of no value, it is a different OS with different support.

Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Step 4: Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known) on this thread
Regards,
Mark

Ok the wireless is working and detecting wireless networks
I suggest you run:
sudo apt-get install wicd; sudo apt-get --purge network-manager*
Then reboot. You can now use wicd to access the wifi as network-manager is clearly falling short

Sometimes network-manager simply doesn't work but wicd is a great app. Wicd cannot manage 3G connections at present which is probably why network-manager is default
