b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode15.fw" not found -> Wireless Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01) not working on HP Mini 110-1100 in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
I installed Ubuntu desktop and the Network doesnt even attempt to connect to anything, let alone search for any networks. It just says that it is disconnected. It doesn't give me the option to search for wireless internet. It acts like the wifi antenna is turned off, but I have made sure that it is on. what do i do to get on the internet???

If the right driver for your WiFi adapter is installed - you can just left click on the network icon on the taskbar which can then show you available wireless networks to connect to.

Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Step 4: Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known).

Hi,
You need to install the following Broadcom driver package using aptitude or Synaptic package manager: bcmwl-kernel-source
This will of course require a working wirED Internet connection in Ubuntu. (wired, not wireless)
For example: using the Terminal, you need to run the following commands to install bcmwl-kernel-
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install bcmwl-kernel-source
Then reboot and retest wireless using Network Manager.
A similar explanation can be found at the end of this thread:

Mark,
I tried those lines but I think there was an error. I'm new to Ubuntu. after I posted my last terminal output my system updated the drivers for wireless. It picks up signal but will not connect. I think it says it's connected but every time i try and load firefox it does not work. And when i click on it in the system notification area it pops up with "(network name) disconnected". But it still shows up as connected with the option to disconnect in the dropdown
heres my results from your last post:
susean@ubuntu:~$ sudo aptitude update

The following error:
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
means that another package manager (Synaptic? Ubuntu Software Center??) was already open at the same time, which prevented aptitude from installing bcmwl-kernel-source
Close ALL open programs and graphical package managers.
Then rerun the following commands:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install bcmwl-kernel-source
Then reboot and retest wireless using Network Manager.

i did it and it continues to say it is disconnected, when in the drop down it displays the connection. It still will not load any web pages. Where is Network Manager? It has the broadcom STA wireless driver. and it says active and currently in use.

See here for info about NetworkManager:
http://
It is an icon in the top right corner of your screen.
It is a graphical interface that allows you to manage your wireless connections.
Right-click on the icon to select and configure your wireless connection.
You might need to enable the connection first.
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask sean for more information if necessary.
