p54pci 0000:03:00.0: Cannot find firmware (isl3886pci) -> UNCLAIMED Wireless Network controller [0280]: Intersil Corporation ISL3890 [Prism GT/Prism Duette]/ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism Xbow] [1260:3890] (rev 01) - driver not enabled because firmware for Netgear wireless PC card WG511 could not be found - using Compaq Armada E500 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Just installed Ubuntu 10.4 on a Qompaq Armada e500. I am trying to get my wireless to work.
I am new to Linux so a lot of the help is Greek or in a language that I can't read. Any help
would be very appreciated
Carl.

Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo aptitude update; sudo aptitude install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Regards,
Mark

it uses ndisgtk + windows driver. You will need to blacklist prism54 so it doesn't try to load.

I received the laptop with no OS and no CDs. I will need to find a Windows driver and install it before I can say the problem is resolved.

Then the link I gave *WAS* a help. as that is EXACTLY what it said to do. What's the point in me getting you guides if you don't read them..........
Go to the netgear site and download the driver, you will need to extract it and get a .sys and a .inf file. ndisgtk will then be used (it's in a redgular install) and you can apply the driver there.

Please see the solution from Chase Douglas at this location:

Run the following commands:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install linux-firmware-
Then reboot and retest wireless.

WiFi-radar preferences has a DHCP tab.
The entry in that tab is calling for dhcpcd. I don't have that client installed
on my machine, What I have is dhclient and dhclient3. Can someone tell me
the entries I need for Wifi-radar od send me to a place to find then?
