Internet launchers not working

Asked by Gabe Boyles

When I downloaded Google Chrome onto my computer, Firefox still worked fine until a few days after I downloaded Google Chrome. Firefox started to only find one page, and that is the Google home page. I also downloaded Opera recently to see if that did any difference, and it was doing the same thing, it was not finding any page I input besides the Google home page.

So right now, the only fully functional browser I have is Google Chrome and it is not as cool as it is for Windows, so how do I fix this issue?

Did you mean : No matter what url you type in the address bar , the browser displays google.com ?

Whatever address I put in, it says that "the connection timed out" for firefox and for opera it says that it "could not connect to remote server." Only when I put www.google.com, does it respond. Not even the mail page responds, just the home page.

pls post the output of "cat /etc/resolv.conf " and "ifconfig" . if /etc/resolv.conf is empty , add line "nameserver 8.8.4.4" as the first line in the file . Replug the cable after this check if it works .

if after this , the story is the same , try giving your router/modem's IP in the address bar of any browser and check whether the modem's admin page comes up . ONLY , If the browser doesn't display the modem's page , set the gateway to your router/modem's IP (it is usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 ) in Network manager .

Ok then you need to add the DNS servers into your network management app as they write the file once they recieve DHCP, you will need to change your IPv4 settings from DHCP to DHCP address only then add the IPs we gave.
