Do you have the driver activated? To check, go to:
System > Administration > Hardware Drivers
For my Dell Studio 1557, which is also Win7/Ubuntu 10.04 with BCM4312, I had to activate the "Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver". I'm fairly certain I got it working from the disc but, at worst, you'll need a wired connection for a minute or two to download it. Once installed, it prompts you to restart, though you may be able to use it by just logging out and in again.

Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo aptitude update; sudo aptitude install hwinfo grep; sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Regards,
Mark

The following output shows that your wireless card is disabled by a hardware wireless killswitch:
*-network DISABLED
description: Wireless interface
product: BCM4312 802.11b/g
0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes
There should be a hardware wireless button on your PC that you need to press to turn wireless ON.
During the boot phase, also check in the BIOS if there is an option to set wireless to "enabled" or to "by application".
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask ivan vasquez for more information if necessary.
