b43-phy0 ERROR: Firmware file "b43/ucode15.fw" not found -> Wireless Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01) not working on Lenovo G550 in Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Faby

Hi everyone.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop-Lenovo G550 and everything seems to be working fine but my internet connection. Prior to the installation of this OS, my wireless connection was working but now it doesn't work. Since it is dual boot, anytime I boot back into windows 7, the wireless automatically connects and work but not with Ubuntu. I have read some of the answers of other posts and I decided to post my log after doing some commands. Below are the details.

Thanks in advance.

Use a wired connection and get full updates using:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

May help.

Hi,

You need to install the following Broadcom driver package using aptitude or Synaptic package manager: bcmwl-kernel-source

This will of course require a working wirED Internet connection in Ubuntu. (wired, not wireless)

For example: using the Terminal, you need to run the following commands to install bcmwl-kernel-source:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install bcmwl-kernel-source

Then reboot and retest wireless using Network Manager.

A similar explanation can be found at the end of this thread:

Mark

tnx actionparsnip and Mark! I combined and ran both suggestions on the command line and before I could use network manager, my wireless appeared immediately and I quickly connected. You're awesome guys and I really appreciate your help.

Hey actionparsnip! I noticed how you're always helping guys and so far all my different questions have been attended to by you. This is the best forum and I'm really happy with Ubuntu. I guess I shouldn't been typing much just to say your solution helped in my problem. But I'm doing this on behalf of all the unknown ppl that have been helped in this great forum.

THANK YOU!!!

<i know i'll be back again cos problems never get exhausted :) >

No worries dude. It's a little selfish me helping folks as I only buy super compatible hardware and avoid apple, kodak, ati, sis and the like so I have ZERO issues with anything so to learn the OS I help others with theirs. Plus it helps people enjoy the OS.

Glad to help dude. You could help folks too as you learn the OS and it makes the world go around

I'd love to help too. But I wonder where to start from as I don't really know much. I just started using Ubuntu one month ago...

Hi all, I was just browsing around in launchpad to see if I can solve my problem with wireless connectivity (BCM5906M), and then landed upon in these discussions. Hi Mark, you already responded to my initial query, and I furnished with the info you needed, albeit little late. Hope you would come up with sth.
To echo Faby here, yes indeed, it's a great community. Long live Open Source and FSF, and Stallman!
