wifi signal booster

Asked by John Kelly

Hi ,
we have connected tonetwork mifi. We live across 8 miles of water from the mainland base station. having problems getting a proper reception we are told that we need and will receive a booster which which will plug in to wall socket and to Huawei dongle allowing access to max 5 devices. Does anyone know about these boosters and maybe what is the best/latest booster. Is there another better alternative!? We did a speedtest with great fluctuations going down regularly to 0.05 download and 0.05 upload hence the need for booster?
thanks for your input
John

What I have done is I've made a home-made antenna.
Besides that I've bought an Alfa Networks adapter which works great with Ubuntu.
Now I can connect to routers about five streets away from me.

So for about 1$ you can boost your wifi range dramatically.
