Wireless in Ubuntu 10 not connecting

Asked by Chintan Patel

No Wireless connection in 10.10?
I really do not understand anything about this operating system, but every "solved" problem does not make any sense whatsoever.
None of the gazillion fixes for wireless problems is working.

However, I can LOG OFF the internet, via pop up message, but I cannot connect to the internet?
I have tried wifi-radar, does not run. I have tried every possible Wireless combination of "wireless network." and "password"
NOTHING.
I have a built-in wireless card in my Dell PC, but the little "wifi" icon never lights up.
Normally, in windows vista, I push the WIFI key and a pop up tells me the divice in "ON"
That button does not work in Ubuntu.

I have looked at numerous videos on youtube, and they all take it that you already understand this environment.

   1. ensure you have installed package ‘bcmwl-modaliases’ : sudo apt-get install bcmwl-modaliases
   2. restart your computer: sudo shutdown -r now

That should work.

Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C network

What encryption do you use (not all adapters can use WPA in Linux)

I am going to log into windows and try and change the encryption to see if that works. Until then, here is the interface info

ok try this:

gksudo gedit /etc/resolv.conf

empty the file and copy these 2 lines:

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4

Save the new file, close all browsers then re-run the browser.

Does the web work?
