after installing 10.04 less internet speed

Asked by Ubunt"u"ser

Hello,
On this machine the OS was Windows XP. Switched harddrive for a new one, installed Ubuntu 10.04 and now internet speed is down to 5 Mb/s what used to be at least 40 MB/s downstream and 30 Mb/s upstream.
HDD ATA-ST3320418AS 320 GB.
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+
RAM 1 GB
Ethernet forcedeth.

On another machine, from which I do not know the config by heart, but something like:
AMD Athlon X2 2.8 Dual
HDD 320 GB
RAM 2 GB
Ethernet

I upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 (via 9.10) and there thereś no internet connection at all anymore.
Networkadapter seems to be in order, at least, it sends and receives packages telling me it doesn't work.

Thanks 4 the help.

Hello,
here again, several hours later. and tired. the problem occurred in the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.1 as well, it seems. That time it was debugged, but now it 's back again? Connection to the net keeps on going as long as IPv6 is disabled in the network manager, but not that fast! . And thatś not the way it should be of course. Working with open dsl solves the problem completely, including the speed. But how do I give in the right dsl in the correct config.
When somebody could give me the proper directions there I 'd be very grateful. I'll hear. Thanx
