Hi,
Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).
In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:
Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications-
Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https:/
Tip: If you have a wheel mouse or 3 button mouse you do not need to type commands into the Terminal. Highlight the command written on the page. Move your cursor anywhere in the Terminal and press the wheel or middle button. Automatic Copy and paste! No spelling mistakes! No Typos! No other errors!
sudo lshw -C network; rfkill list; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/
Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread. The troubleshooters here need to see the full Terminal output from running the above command.
Regards,
Mark

Did you install b43-fwcutter? If not you can get it from Synaptic Package Manager.

Hi,
You need to install the following Broadcom driver package using aptitude or Synaptic package manager: bcmwl-kernel-source
This will of course require a working wirED Internet connection in Ubuntu. (wired, not wireless)
For example: using the Terminal, you need to run the following commands to install bcmwl-kernel-
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install bcmwl-kernel-source
Then reboot and retest wireless using Network Manager.
If wireless is still giving issues, please proceed with the following procedure:
Connect to your wireless router using a wired ethernet (LAN) connection.
Make sure that the SSID is broadcast and NOT hidden.
Make sure the SSID name does NOT contain any spaces.
For example: change SSID name "The new Castillo" to TheNewCastillo
Change the transmission channel on the wireless router to channel 7, channel 8 or channel 9.
Then retest wireless....
Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark Rijckenberg.
Thank you so much for the tip on installing the Broadcom card on my laptop. I got it working.
It took me a little longer than I expected for some reason, when I changed the SSID to one without spaces, then I changed the transmission channel and still wasn't working. restarted the system every time I applied any changes.
Well the case is that my wireless is working now. Thanks again.
One thing I don't understand is, the icon for the wireless signal is not present at the top. What I get is a picture(of a couple of screen monitors) with a red x at the bottom, I don't what that means.
Thanks again, bye for now.

Hey Mark,
Sorry for the mishap, but I still have a problem with my wireless connection on my Dell Studio laptop
For about 3 days or so I was able to connect wirelessly, but not anymore.
I honesty don't know what could've happened.
Please review the laptop data, maybe we can come up with something. I downloaded a driver from Broadcom site for Linux( about 1 MB or so) But I don;t know how to install it from the command line, maybe you can show me how. obviously it is a zipped file. I can't remember if it is a .tar or .rpm file extension.
Anyways, please let me know if more info is needed.
Thanks.
