Linksys WUSB54GP Wireless-G USB not detected

Asked by Ivan Zdravkovic

I have this Wireless-G USB Adapter for my desktop computer. It is not detected in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). It does not show up as a wireless device, I cannot see an option to connect to wireless, and it acts like the device does not work at all. I never had this problem in Ubuntu 9.04.

I can't really take more steps; I searched around online, but I only found solutions that worked for other models of Linksys USB adapters, and did not work in my case. I have tried rebooting the computer and checked that it did work with 9.10 using the cd; I could immediately connect to the internet.

The USB adapter is: Linksys Wireless-G Portable USB Adapter WUSB54GP

Does anyone have an idea about what I should do to solve this issue? Thank you very much in advance!

Connect the adapter to usb, open a terminal and type

lsusb

you will see all USB deviced listed like this

Bus 004 Device 002: ID 0458:003a some_description

With the USB ID do a google search

"0458:003a ubuntu" or come back with the id for help. Once you know the exact ID you can search for a driver if it exists.

This was the code I got running lsusb: "Bus 001 Device 005: ID 5041:2235 Linksys (?)"

I tried searching for 5041:2235 ubuntu drivers, but I could not find any.

Do I need to blacklist something (I've read a lot of people doing that with similar devices) , or can I use the windows driver cd that came with the usb adapter?

Ivan,

I have downloaded the linux-firmware-nonfree on my system. I installed it from my jump drive and not from Synaptic but I don't think it should make a difference. Well, my wusb54gp Linksys wifi adapter still is not working. I've been searching for some help for so many hours now.

Do you or does anybody else know if I am missing something or can you direct me with the correct hyperlinks to get my adapter working.

Thank you all so much!
