Installing wifi driving on E-way (Via) Machine

Asked by James Wendt

I have a box that was originally a "Zonbu" running Zonbu Linux on which I have installed Unbuntu 7.04.

Everything is working well except for the on-board Wi-Fi which needs a driver.

Running device manager, I see that it is something by "Via Technologies" and I have downloaded what looks like a driver but it appears to need to be compiled.

Please understand that I don't even know enough about Linux to be dangerous but I do know enough to be annoying.

First, can anybody help me to know if I even have have the right driver (I grabbed it from here using legacy Ubuntu settings) http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp

Secondly, what the heck do I need to do to run this? Do I need to compile or is there a "ready to go" driver somewhere?

Help!

Thank you.

Feisty is no longer supported or advised. You should install Jaunty or later or Hardy. I suggest you get Lucid as it is the latest and is also LTS.

Can you help with this problem?
