No sound anymore

Asked by ®om

I don't have any sound anymore on my desktop computer for 2~3 days.

I have 2 sound cards :
01:0a.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 0a)
00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AC97 Audio Controler (MCP) (rev a1)

I usually use the first, but now it doesn't work at all.
The second works only with OSS, not ALSA or other…

Before that problem, both worked with alsa/pulseaudio…
I tried an older kernel (2.6.27-7, the current default is 2.6.7-9), but same problem.

I wondered if it wasn't a hardware problem, until I asked on forum.ubuntu-fr.org and another person had exactly the same problem for several days : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=288622

I don't know what package I should assign this bug…

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us volumes for card Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 have been muted. This does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

Sorry, I generated the alsa info from ssh, I didn't check the sound mute state.

The problem occurs of course even when sound is not muted, I regenerated the info, making sure that the sound is not muted :

Sorry, I'm just too stupid. The general volume was not muted, but PCM was. I don't know why this value has changed.

It works now :)

Problem solved, thank you.
