No sound in Ubuntu 7

Asked by thedonpsx

I have a Toshiba Equium A210 Laptop, when i type in the command lspci, i get this line about my sound card:
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia

THere is no sound, not even a start up sound or anything

I think I need to download a driver, but I have no idea where to start or what to do, again, I am a Linux newbie so it would be greatly appreciated if you help me as simply as possible!
MANY THANKS!

Hi.

First, check to see if you are using the Alsa mixer. To do this, double click on the volume control applet (looks like two speakers near the clock). Once it is open, choose File->Change Device and see if Alsa Mixer is selected. If not, select it.

Second, check that the PCM control in Alsa mixer is turned up and is NOT muted. Most programs use PCM for audio.

If these don't help, then try checking out these links:

Good luck
