inconsistant sound-always works in rythembox

Asked by petebass4life

hi, this is my first thread so here goes,
My sound card cm8738 works fine with rhythembox and the autodetect in the system>preferences>sound when set to C-Media PCI DAC/ADC or C-Media PCI IE958 the trouble is when i try to play any movies or dvd's and firefox and log in. it rarely works in those applications i think this is because the soundcard im trying to use is not the inbuiilt soundcard and for some reason its trying to select the other inbuilt soundcard (sis966). I have logitech x-530 surround hooked up to it and it works great with rythembox. It would be great if someone could show me how to make my cm8738 soundcard as my default otherwise i might try breaking my inbuilt one :). Also if someone could tell me what settings i should use for my surround sound system. Thankyou.
