Thinkpad R32 Microphone Problem

Asked by Kemal Arsan

Hi,

I have a R32 Thinkpad with onboard Intel chipset (845 I believe). The sound works fine with ALSA but I can't get the mic or the line-in to work for the mic. I also tried it within the skype and it does not record (nor sound recorder works).

I wonder if the OS did not recognize my audio correctly, I had installed Ubuntu using my newer T42 Thinkpad (my R32 CD drive is defective). So, the OS was installed on the harddrive with T42. Unfortunately I can't take the harddrive off and put it into the T42 and test the mic.

Maybe it is some simple volume control settings (since there is audio afterall).

Thanks for all your help in advance.

Kemal

I'm having the exact same problem (that is, i can listen either sound files though the speakers and voice through the mic, but i'm not being able to record) my box is a regular clone (with a SB Live! audio board). Thanks in advance and don't hesitate to ask me further details namely maybe the amixer output or any alsamixer screenshot, I'd be glad to help troubleshooting the issue.

Nano.

same problem with ubuntu (GNOME) ... i can't get it to record or even play back sound I've recorded at all. I can hear people on skype, but they can not hear me at all. I have tried to mess with the mic settings but it gave me some sort of error message... I was testing in sound preferences under the mic section.. and I got this error message... Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat' someone help please!!
