Have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras ?
Does it happen as a fresh user?
Have you reported a bug?

I confirm this error. The same thing happens to me. I was using the Alpha 2 and installed Updates (I think for beta 1). After, I rebooted the PC and installed the restricted extras... It gave some error but showed that it was installed. Clicking on the video file opens the player, but then I get logged out to the Login Screen. I have uninstalled the restricted extras, but still, the problems persist.

Experiencing the same problem - 12.04 Beta 1. Installed latest updates as of today. Installing/removing ubuntu-restricted-extras does not have an affect.

Seems to be another post related to this problem:

Disabling the accelerated video output (overlay) also works for me, it no longer causes the problem. I'm running the restricted ATI FGLRX drivers.
