Ubuntu 10.04 Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7310 driver/codec/video problem

Asked by Han Shan

When I try to watch a dvd or play a video file on the aforementioned system, only sound is heard and blank screen is shown.
I added the medibuntu repositories and followed through this method specified in the link below to install restricted extra packages. No avail.
Any suggestions?

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install libdvdread4; sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh; sudo apt-get update

Should install what you need

I'm afraid that did not solve it.
However, I started to fiddle with the video output settings of VLC and X11 turned out to be the missing link.
Anyway, I appreciate your help.
