using a Polaroid DVD/CD player on my laptop with ubuntu software

Hi
I have a Gateway small laptop with an Ubuntu software system. I got a Polaroid DVD/CD player/writer.
When I try to play a DVD, it goes "Open Movie Player" then, it doesn't work.
Thus, I would like some guidance, even if it involves with whom would be better to ask this question.

if you are trying to watch DVD's, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs

you should open terminal and run
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install libdvdread4; sudo apt-get install vlc; sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

to open terminal you can press CTRL + ALT + T
