Is it possible to make Copy protected CD/DVD

Asked by SWAGATAK GHOSH

Is it possible to make a copy protected CD/DVD in my system ? Actually I want to make some backups and want to make copy protected ? Which is the best way to restrict my backups ?

Is it safe if I make a .rar /.tar file by password ? Is it possible to break by anyone on any other operating system ? Which is the safe and easy way to encrypt ? It is taking a long time when I am making a .rar or .tar file (file size is large approx 1GB).

Hello Swagatak
if you are wanting to make encrypted backups then you can use deja dup (this is installable from the Ubuntu Software Center)

http://live.gnome.org/DejaDup/HowItWorks
"Encryption

Déjà Dup relies on duplicity to handle the encryption, and it uses gpg with a symmetric cipher. Basically, that means it is encrypted just with the password your provide. You will need to remember that password to restore your data. "

You could also use the Archive Manager to zip the file and password protect the zip file. Right click a folder, choose compress, in other option's you can password protect the compressed file/folder.

And, a bit more complicated method would be to use GPG. see http://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.html#AEN111
