How to play dvd in Ubuntu

I have the latest version of ubuntu installed with a dual boot with windows 7 as the host. ive been able to use ubuntu for everything in my life except playing and authoring dvds.
Could someone please tell me what i need to install to provide dvd support? and how to go about installing it? I am a relatively new Linux user, and I am excited about the learning experience.

If you want to make DVD videos then you can use devede to make multiple video files into a DVD ISO which you can then burn. You can manipulate and edit you videos in any one of these apps:
