playing video's in 11.04 beta

Asked by Daniel Bate

I am having problems playing any video's whatsoever in the beta release of 11.04

When i try to view any video, the video loads up as per normal then after about 20 seconds of viewing i am logged out of user account.

the problem is not associated with just one viewing platform, i have tried watching video's with VLC Banshee and Movie Player and the problem persists.

Has anyone else experienced this problem or know how to solve it??

have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras?
have you install w32codecs from medibuntu? (I assume 32bit Gnome desktop)
Have you logged a bug?
Do other players work ok?

I haven't logged any bug as of yet, all other players work ok all are fine with music and im having no problems streaming, its only when im watching movies i have downloaded that i am having this issue.

I have just installed the ubuntu-restricted- extras and the w32codecs

i tried to play a movie in each of the 3 players i have and the issue still persists.

it seems to happen if you try to adjust the size of your viewer, ei: trying to switch to full screen viewing, that seems to trigger it off

Could be anything, compiz, unity, xorg. Without research of logfiles, terminal outputs which may indicate some error messages, hardware specifics it's just jigsaw.
You need to assigne a package when reporting a bug and report it with apport in order to get out as much info as possible to developers.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

Anyway, since there is now a report you can upload further system information by opening a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
Type:
apport-collect 771433

For future reference.

thought i would add further information to this for you, i have downloaded and installed 11.04 formatting my hd in the process and this error still occurs.

apport did not collect any further info once again.

i think i might re-install 10.10 i did not have this issue with that build so ill continue to use that one.

Can you help with this problem?
