CD/DVD won't play on newly installed Ubuntu 10.10

After attempting to play CD/DVD on newly installed Ubuntu 10.10, nothing happens. At first, movie player would load but then subsequently stopped. Tried installing Adobe Flash plug-in player 10-still no video or music. Something about "gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly" needs to be installed. I did so, still nothing. I removed it and tried to reinstall. Can't get it to reinstall, message appears about restricted use or possible illegal use. Next tried to install "Ubuntu restricted extras package" and continued to get "restricted" prompt which disallows me to do anything.
Youtube and Pandora radio will play-nothing can be played from a CD/DVD. Why is this seemingly simple function so difficult on Ubuntu 10.10?

Flash should have absolutely nothing to do with CD/DVD playback.

You need to install the restricted MP3 and DVD playback software:
