DVD not playing

Asked by Chris

I have just upgraded to the latest version of Ubuntu and find that I cannot play commercial DVD's. In fact they are not recognised at all.

Do I need to get more software to run commercial DVD's and if so what software?

Hi Chris

To run Commercial DVD's you will have to install an extra package.

Please either follow this guide or:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs

or run these commands in terminal:
sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Also I would recommend installing ubuntu-restricted-extras from the Software center as this installs many other codecs and useful formats.

Hope that helps

Andy
