Can't play store bought dvd's on my computer with ubuntu 10.10

Asked by Danny Tenhoff

I have put ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop and I can't play my store bought dvd's that I have! I have tried all of the dvd players that are free. I don't have the money for the dvd player that you have to pay for! I have put a new dvd drive in my laptop because the old one was bad. I can play dvd's that are copy's but not any of my other ones. What can I do to be able to play my store bought dvd's? Also I am only running the ubuntu on my laptop. My laptop is a dell inspirion 1150. I have wrote to you about this problom before, case number is 136984. And I still can't use the dvd. And put in a new drive.

Danny,

OPTION 1

step 1 - add the Medibuntu repository (instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu )
step 2 - be sure to run "sudo apt-get update"
step 3 - "sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2"

OPTION 2

step 1 - sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
step 2 - sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Good luck,
George
