cannot play dvd or audio cd

I have just done clean install of ubuntu 10-10 and cannot play dvd,s or audio cd although boot sound works and i can play sound in rythmbox via the internet yet rythmbox will not play audio cd I cannot get sound or video when using system test either any idea's ?

Run:

sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update; sudo apt-get -y install libdvdread4; sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh; sudo apt-get -y upgrade

You can now play commercial DVDs

yeah works to a degree dvd play is slow and jerky

Then you will need to tweak display settings etc.Youo probably use a crappy intel, sis or via chrome video chip

ubuntu sucks! technician sucks as well!:-(
