Ubuntu 10.04 is not recognizing my CD/DVD Drive

OK I have this problem with my CD/DVD Drive in Ubuntu 10.04. It will not read any CD or DVD format now I have tried using music CDs, movie DVDs and using blank CDs and blank DVDs. I have Ubuntu and Windows XP on this computer as dual booting. When I use Windows XP all my CDs and DVDs work fine when I try to use them in Ubuntu I have no luck. Another thing is I know I will probably have to go into to the Terminal to take care of this problem I still need to learn how that works. So if someone would be willing to give me some help and explain it the best way they can I would really appreciate it.

I have read to quickly your message.
Try to read Ubuntu CD. If it fails, it's useless to go to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu. In this case, you have a wrong /etc/fstab or your harware is not properly managed.

I have used the Ubuntu CD and nothing will come up. So how would I get the right /etc/fstab on the hardware. Also thank you for telling me this appreciate it.

Sorry, but it seems that cdrom is not declared in fstab since 10.04 (I did a fresh install previous week-end) so I have to search how to investigate now.
If you upgraded 9.10 to 10.04, perhaps you always have cdrom in /etc/fstab.
Could you check this ?

I had my brother take a look at my computer and the CD/DVD Drive seems to be working now. Thank you for your help.
