burned cd, cant get it to run on start up

ive downloaded the files 3 times the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS with and with out alternate desktop CD and ive downloaded the Ubuntu 7.04, i restart my computer and windows loads, i changed it to load from cd 1st and ive even tried using a program called virtual pc. nothing happens but if i put disc in while my computers on it lets me install the files like mozzila firefox and abi word. can any1 plz help ? oh yea and im 13 so dont use big words :P or use detail, thx

I don't know if this is your problem, but did you maybe burn the .iso as a file onto the CD? Please have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto to see how to succesfully create a bootable Ubuntu CD.
