Did you unmute the mic for capture in alsamixer? Just start alsamixer and hit [tab] and you should see the recording controls.

Hi all,

I have the same problem, I read several post everywhere on the forum but I wasn't able to record my voice and then to use skype.

My sound card is:

Card: HDA Intel │
Chip: Realtek ALC880

Alsa mixer version: V1.0.17

Ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.27-9

In system ->preferences -> audio -> recording options I choose ALSA

If I type alsamixer on terminal I have all these features:

Playback:

1)Master
2)Headphone
3)PCM
4)CD
5)IEC958
6)IEC958 D
7)PC speak
8)Caller I
9)Ext Mic
10)Int Mic
11)off-hook
12)Speaker

Capture

1)Capture
2)Capture1
3)Cinput
4)Digital
5)input So (mic, front mic, line, cd)
6)input So (mic, front mic, line, cd)
7)input So (mic, front mic, line, cd)

All caputre line are red color ( I think unmute)

Can anybody help me?

Thanks

I had the same problem. I solved it by playing around and finding the correct entry for mixer.
I selected microphone and it worked, as long as the alsa mixer had it activated, same with mic boost.

So, to recapitulize:

Step 1) got to System > Preferences > Audio > Mixer
Select the device.
For the other options, I have selected the Pulse Audio Server and the hda Intel set.
Step 2) call alsamixer
Press tab, to get to the capture panel, and make sure the device is active (I set mine to 100/red).

And for me it worked, also for Skype!

Can you help with this problem?
