password problems unlocking login keyring

Asked by Jim Dillard

Enter Password to unlock your login keyring. The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer.

I get this error and I put in my password, to no avail. This error cycles back up again, I hit cancel, it goes away, but comes back in a few minutes.

You can try to reset your keyring;

First backup your file;
cp ~/.gnome2/keyrings/default.keyring ~/gnome.keyring.backup

From terminal;
rm ~/.gnome2/keyrings/default.keyring

From GUI;
Navigate to Places > Home. Press ctrl-h for "hidden files". Navigate to .gnome2 > keyrings. Delete default.keyring file.

After that your password should gone, you can reset the password on next use.

Hope this helps...

I got another solution
- open "Password and Keys"
- go to File->New
- select "Password Keyring"
- give new password
- right-click the newly created keyring
- select "set as default"

Now you can use this keyring password to unlock. Set the same password as your login password to automatically unlock keyring at login.
