cd you give the output of:

ls -la $HOME

Thanks

Basically if you delete the name of the gnomines config folder, it will reset them and all settings to vanilla next time it is executed.

I deleted the gnomine folder and the program did return to the vanilla state as you said it would. As soon as I entered my custom preferences the scores returned.

I deleted the folder again and uninstalled (sudo apt-get purge gnomine) game. I reinstalled the game and the same thing happened. The scores returned as soon as I set up my preferences.

I think this machine might be haunted! It may be time to sell it!

You could try in gconf-editor under the apps folder, is a gnomine folder. Maybe that holds stuff

I just got this to work beautifully on Lucid Lynx by going into the /var/games folder (as root - you can do this by going to a terminal and typing in "sudo nautilus"). There is a high score folder for each level in there:

gnomine.Small.scores
gnomine.Medium.scores
gnomine.Large.scores
gnomine.Custom.scores

If you open each one of these and erase all the scores that are in there, that will do the trick.

Make sure you do not delete the files, just delete the contents. If you delete the files, the high score system won't work.

That worked perfectly. Thank you very much. I really must find something more productive to do with my mind! :-)

In Ubuntu 10.04.4LTS, the files in /var/games all have an initial size "0" and a time stamp of 201202140247.06 (14 February 2012, 2:47:06). To recreate the files as they were on initial system setup, one can delete them, then use the "touch" command (as "root") in a terminal window opened in /var/games/ with:

sudo rm <filename>
sudo touch -t201202140247.06 <filename>

The list of files is as follows, including a number for games that aren't included on the 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" LiveCD:

glines.Medium.scores
glines.Large.scores
gnibbles.1.0.scores
