gnome-panel causes flickering with high cpu usage in 14.04.3 trusty

Asked by Lakshminarayanan Seshadri

Setup: Ubuntu 14.04.3 desktop (3.19.0-26-generic) machine with gnome-session flashback installed.
Issue: Whenever one moves pointer near Applications menu i.e Top left corner in gnome panel one sees a flickering in any application window opened at that time as well as high cpu usage in "gnome-panel" process as seen from top.
The issue persists as long as the pointer is near the top left corner in panel at top i.e flickering and high cpu.
Is this a known issue and any WA possible, ?
Thanks in advance

The machine is a fresh Ubuntu 14.04.3 trusty install and uses integrated/internal intel graphics card only.

It appears that gnome-panel provided via gnome-session flashback package on top of Ubuntu 14.04 is not happy with something near applications menu and causes flickering+ spins on a mutex causing high cpu momentarily 10-20%.
I sampled via perf from kernel tools and since i do not know any further on other details, i leave it here.
If anyone who has more info on details of the above package pls look into it.
Not a big issue to worry at moment but annoying to see "gnome-panel" disturbing resource profile of my other work.

thanks in adv.
