Ubuntu Disk Utility -- "Daemon is being inhibited".

Asked by Scott Price

I have a WD 1TB HDD that has several partitions on it, for both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04. The Windows partition has stopped booting and I'm just trying to recover files from the partition. I can load the live version of Ubuntu, but not install. When I try using the disk utility program, the 3 "drives" I have setup on a Windows (NTFS) partition show not mounted. If I try to mount them, OR try to check the file system, I get the error, "Daemon is being inhibited". Detail: Daemon is inhibited. How do I get the daemon to be Uninhibited? Anyone know about this? I would appreciate any suggestions.

First of all I will suggest you to consider an Upgrade of the release , because 11.04 is EOL. Not supported anymore.
See here for Ubuntu releases : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

For you problem try this from a terminal

~$ killall udisks

and then see if disk-utility works.

Or you can reboot your system and open only Disk-Utility and see.

Thanks

Just for clarity, I never did recover any files from the HDD. It was a virus of some sort, probably from an email. The HDD will not accept a boot from anywhere, now and my files still sit there unavailable to me.

Thanks for the help.
