how to rename a hard disk drive

one of my hard drives, disk 2, formatted for windows, has a name consisting of a dozen digits. I would lile to rename the drive to something simple.

Hi ,

I think that if you add a label , you will sovle your problem .

Try it.

From Disk Utility choose "Edit Filesystem Label" . In most of the times this will not hurt your data , but is always good to backup your important data before make any changes to the disk.

The partition will need to be unmounted to label it, you can do this in live CD easily.
