How do I check the file system on a 64 bit 12.04?

Asked by Chico Miraglia

What is the analog in Unbuntu of "checkdisk" in Windows? How do I run a consistency and file checking in Ubuntu; or even, schedule it for a next boot? I am running a 64 bit 12.04 version of Ubuntu.

 Thanks for any help!!!

You can use fsck, you can do it from liveCD or you can run:

sudo touch /forcefsck && sudo shutdown -r now

And it will be checked at next reboot
