Have you tried different USB slots?
Is the BIOS up to date?
Do other ejected devices do the same?

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

Thanks

Tested all of them. no change in result.

BIOS is not the latest version but i found an exe file for bios update for my Compaq420 on the website. Now i will be doing this for the first time so i don't know how should i do bios update with an exe file?

No other devices work fine.

"akshay@AKS:~$ lsb_release -a; uname -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10
Codename: oneiric
Linux AKS 3.0.0-13-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Mon Oct 17 20:18:09 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux" is the output when this hard drive is still mounted.

Now another new thing i encountered is after formatting the partition to EXT4 file system, it shows 14.6 GB used out of available 930GB space and i donno for what? It won't let me write anything on it. Why is that so? I reformatted to NTFS system and it works fine even the used space was as little as 93 MBs out of 930 GB.

The exe will only work in Windows. Check what thibgs the updates resolve. If none are USB based then it won't really benefit you.

Do you use the device in Windows?

No the update doesn't provide any fix/enhancement related to USB.

I do not use it in windows. my machine has only ubuntu. No windows. But i cannot understand issue after reformatting drive to EXT4 filetype, the one which i mentioned above as i di not came across such scenario before whenever i used ext4 filesystem for my Portable hard drive.

Can you help with this problem?
