Can you give the output of:

sudo fdisk -l; mount; lsb_release -a

A default install makes a swap partition.

try in a terminal
sudo apt-get install gparted
sudo gparted

select the partition u like and set it as a swap...
its a bit more difficult if u must resize the active partition and u might have to run the gparted from a live cd in that case.

You can use GParted the Gnome partition editor for that

GParted is not installed by default but can be downloaded using the Ubuntu software Center.

gksudo gparted

DON'T use sudo for GUI apps, it isn't suitable. The equivelant in kde is kdesdufo
