no dash top left corner of screen fordisk utility?

I'm using Ubuntu 11.4
the help guide says
Click the dash in the top left corner of the screen and start the Disk Utility.
But there is nothing up there except the applications Ubuntu insignia?
Can you help me with this please?
Never mind I found the disk utility lol
