How to reformat hard drive and re-install Ubuntu from USB

Asked by Kristopher Arens

I currently have Chrome OS and Ubuntu 11.04 on my netbook and would like to reformat my 16 GB SSD to run solely on Ubuntu 11.04. I do not have an external CD drive, but I do have a USB flash drive. What is the process for doing this?

Under applications, you have access to the old system/administration/startup disk creator, so use it to create the usb live media, and reinstall from that. You will need at least a 1G usb stick, but larger is OK. You will also need the 11.04 iso. Run the md5sum checksum before using the iso. Set your netbook to boot from the usb before the internal hard disk. Of course, backup anything you really want to keep that's on the hard disk, with only 16G, you probably just want to use one partition plus swap. Of course, you can try out the usb before acutally using it to install.

Can you help with this problem?
